Need a Listening Ear or to Hear Friendly Voice?
Dear Members and Friends of SBPC,
First, Happy Advent to you! We pray that this year, though different and challenging, will bring us an especially blessed Christmas season with many creative ways of reaching out to our families, each other, and the world.
We at SBPC’s Stephen Ministry are using Zoom to continue our weekly meetings with our care-receivers. Small groups are zooming; pastors and other leaders are zooming; and the Deacons and Stephen Ministers are also telephoning you, the congregation, to check on how you are coping. Our church definitely is a caring community of believers!
On the topic of caring, Stephen Ministry would like to take a moment to share what God is up to in the lives of non-believers as well as fellow Christians. Stephen Ministry has experienced God’s calling in new ways: over the past two years. God has sent us people from other faith traditions, as well as agnostics and atheists. Each of these relationships was possible because one of YOU or our church staff referred someone they noticed feeling overwhelmed by life circumstances. We believe that God is enabling us to plant seeds of faith, as He woos people to Himself through this SBPC ministry.
Although it is exciting and challenging to work with non-Christians, there are folks in our own church community who need help. As you know, the Christmas season can bring on feelings of alienation, sadness, and disappointment. We are asking for your help this month (and all year) to be aware of folks who could use some support and refer them to Stephen Ministry. We have kind, caring, confidential Stephen Ministers standing ready to provide Christ’s care for people. Who do you know who could use some one-on-one support and “a soft place to land”? You have the power to say, “I think a Stephen Minister would be a helpful support for you during this time”.
Communications between the person receiving care and their assigned Stephen Minister will be kept in the strictest confidence. Penny Cox is a Stephen Minister who can process a request for a Stephen Minister. You can reach her at 619-253-4225
