Music Ministry Blessed

Music Ministry Blessed

On Sunday, Oct 21, the Chancel Choir and Worship team served at the Ladle Fellowship at First Presbyterian in downtown San Diego. The choir and band performed some hymns and our own Judy Enns provided some words of worship and encouragement to the almost 200 members of the San Diego homeless community who attended. In addition to music, choir members handed out gifts of donated clothes and served lunch to our “guests.” Medical professionals were there providing advice and care to any who needed it. Blessings were abundant. Seeing the joy on......

Deacons—Showing Christ's Love Through Care and Service

Deacons do a multitude of things in a variety of places to extend God’s love in a variety of ways! Each month, the SBPC Deacons prepare and serve communion in worship and at home for those who are unable to attend services. Whenever called, they provide warm and supportive receptions following a memorial service. The Deacons organize and provide friendly, Christian visitation to anyone in need of a friendly smile and compassionate heart from the church family. This can be arranged for at home, the hospital or care center. They provide emergency......

Border Ministries

Write By:

Border Ministries at SBPC, in partnership with Hope without Boundaries, serves different communities of children and the elderly in Tijuana and Rosarito, Mexico. Our goal is to serve our neighbors across the border by sharing a meal, friendship, a Christian craft and the word of God; and to offer an easily accessible mission opportunity for our congregation where we can serve intergenerationally together. This ministry matches God’s command to love our neighbor and our church’s mission to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. We go to Mexico on the second Saturday of......

Remembering Those We Have Lost

Remembering Those We Have Lost

Write By:

Each year we honor and remember members and friends in our congregation who have passed away.  On the Saturday before All Saints Day, our Living Through Loss Ministry Team holds a Service of Remembrance.  It is a wonderful time to reflect, pay tribute, and honor the cherished memories of family and friends that we have lost through the year. The Sunday before All Saints’ Day, we put an insert in our worship bulletin that lists members and friends in our congregation who have passed away.  This year’s Service of Remembrance is this......

From Our Team in Africa…

Thank you for your prayers, they are felt here and God is at work! Yesterday our team visited a primary school that we helped build 10 years ago. There are also 30 girls that are a part of the Keep a Girl in School program. We got to meet with these girls and hear their dreams for the future. Many aspire to be doctors or engineers one day. Later that day, JD returned to train 30 teachers. The topics of his training were human communication and substance abuse. At this time the......

Ethiopia Mission Trip–October 2018

Twenty years ago, our church signed a covenant partnership with the Mekane Yesus Church in Ethiopia to bring the good news of Jesus to people in the harsh desert of Ethiopia. Our partnership has involved digging wells, establishing health clinics, improving food security, and more. We also started the Keep a Girl in School (KAGIS) program that sponsors young girls to be able to attend school and even college. In addition, we support the Women Self-Help Groups (WSG) that encourage joint savings among women. Our team is embarking on a trip to......

Alternative Christmas Market (ACM)

Alternative Christmas Market (ACM)

Our God is an amazing god! He heard my prayers and blessed me well beyond them. Several years ago I was frustrated because I wanted to meet new people in our church, beyond my current circle of friends. I shared my desire with  our leaders and they suggested I volunteer in a new area that I hadn’t been involved with before. Then, I was asked by Judy Theriault to co-lead Alternative Christmas Market (ACM). Saying yes to that call turned into a blessing in so many ways…  First it introduced me to......

God Hears Us

God Hears Us

We heard this story from one of our Deacons and she said it would be OK for us to share her story with the congregation. It’s a great reminder that God is definitely at work. As the weekend approached I dreaded yet another trip to Memphis, to another court hearing involving my 22 month old granddaughter, and the battle. My granddaughter and her mom live with us here. Her father is in Memphis and wants to have the toddler 2 weeks per month. Her mom of course says no, it is too......
