Compassion International Sponsorship of Children

Save the Date—Sunday, October 28 The SBPC Compassion team will be holding a Q&A session to help you foster your relationship with your sponsored child on Sunday, Oct. 28 in Debin Hall immediately following both services. We’ll cover some of the following topics: Are you still feeling like a newbie at this letter-writing thing? It’s likely your sponsored child and the center staff are too. Are you not getting answers to your questions? Come hear from the team that went to El Salvador this last January about how important you are to......

Experiencing God's Kingdom Through a Child

In January of 2018, I was blessed by going to El Salvador and meeting our very young sponsored child, named Darlin. She was four years old at the time. We had enjoyed quite a bit of letter writing back and forth so we were not strangers at all. It was love at first sight. She and her beautiful young mother were so vulnerable looking. That first meeting changed my life forever. Through the translator I learned why she had such sad eyes. She said her father was “not very nice” and had......

Ministry Highlight: Hispanic Outreach

Reaching out to our Hispanic neighbors has been our consistent and long-term calling from God. Decades ago, members of SBPC organized to help Latin American migrants in our community, many living in the canyons. A Spanish fellowship grew so much that we brought a Hispanic pastor on to our staff. Our Hispanic fellowship numbers around 80 adults and 40 children, and they are actively involved in many SBPC mission endeavors. What we do/who we are: Every month the fellowship and volunteers offer sack breakfasts and lunches to the day workers waiting for......

I met Felicia shortly after she moved to San Diego. When I learned that Felicia was a former foster child who had been in and out of foster care from the age of 5 and had lived in a group home from age 13 on, I felt such awe at what she......

Creation Care

Creation Care

Write By:

It all started 18 years ago, when I started coming to SBPC. I joined the Social Concerns Committee, which is now called Outreach Leadership Team (OLT). Tom English was the leader of the Environmental Task Force (now Creation Care). He opened my eyes to understand that being a Christian and caring for the environment were not in opposition! Hurray! It did not take me long to become a passionate member of that team and now a Co-Leader of our SBPC Creation Care team with Sheila Rodrigues. Another eye opening event just happened......

Haiti Food Packing Event 2018

Haiti Food Packing Event 2018

Write By:

Through the Alternative Christmas Market last November, we raised $5,000 for Hurricane Recovery in the Carribbean. This funding made the FFCC food packing event possible as one of the Community Serve Day sites at our church. Led by Valerie Bass, the site packed 35,000 food packs, 10,000 of which went to Haiti. FFCC hosted a meal packing event in Haiti with these funds as well the day before Community Serve Day which will provide 9,000 meals for the local community. Here is a letter of appreciation from FFCC’s director… In partnership with......
